MEMBERSHIP
The ISC20C membership is inter-disciplinary and is composed of Expert Members and Associate members who reflect regional and cultural diversity, in all the fields of expertise relevant to the conservation of Twentieth-Century heritage. The Committee strives to incorporate Associate Members and Emerging Professionals’ participation in all its work.
APPLICATION PROCESS
If self-nominated, two supporting letters of recommendation from ICOMOS members who know the nominee are needed. If nominated by the National Committee or International Scientific Committee, a letter of nomination by the respective Committee to which the nominee belongs is required.
In addition, nominees are to submit a letter of interest indicating proposed areas of contribution to ISC20C’s triennial plan activities and a short CV. Personal commitment to the ICOMOS Ethical Principles, 2014 and active participation in the work of the ISC20C are required.
Applications will be assessed by the Committee’s Secretary General and Membership Secretary, and recommendations made to the ISC20C Bureau for final decision. Applications for membership to the ISC20C using the form below should be emailed to the Membership Secretary at membershipsecretaryisc20c@gmail.com with a copy for information to the applicant’s National Committee, or where none exists, to the International Secretariat.
Expert Members
ICOMOS Members experienced and engaged in areas relevant to the objectives of the Committee may apply for Expert Membership, either upon personal application or by proposal of the National Committee to which they belong.
Expert Members are accepted based on their individual profile, in particular their knowledge of and/or associations with Twentieth-Century heritage. All Expert Members must be members of ICOMOS and may remain members so long as they are ICOMOS members and participate actively in the work of the Committee.
Each National Committee should designate one Expert Member as its voting member, who may vote at elections of the Committee’s Bureau or concerning the amendment of its By-Laws. When voting on any other issues and decisions, all Expert Members have a vote.
Associate Members
ICOMOS Members interested in gaining knowledge and building up expertise in areas relevant to the objectives of the Committee may apply for Associate Membership, either upon personal application or proposal by the National Committee to which they belong.
Associate Members shall be accepted in an unlimited number. Associate members will generally be emerging professionals willing to actively participate in the work of the Committee. They are conditionally accepted for a period of three years, after which time, on application, their contribution to the Committee and professional experience is reviewed. The Associate Membership can be extended, upgraded to Expert Membership, or rejected.
PARTICIPATION CRITERIA
Criteria for participation shall include, but not be limited to, active participation in the ISC20C triennial work program projects, providing an annual report on personal 20C heritage professional activities for uploading to the website, introducing new members to the committee, and contributing to the ISC20C Toolkit.
All members are encouraged to participate in Committee meetings and Symposia, undertaking projects on behalf of the Committee at the request of the Bureau, representing the Committee in an official capacity before other bodies, or making substantial contributions to the work of a subcommittee or task group of the Committee; or representing the ISC20C on an ICOMOS Working Group. Bureau members who are Triennial Work Plan Project leaders are to actively invite membership participation in all projects.
Should an Expert or Associate Member not participate in this way over three consecutive years without due cause, the Bureau may decide to withdraw the membership of the Expert or Associate Member.
BROADENING MEMBERSHIP
New members, especially Emerging Professionals, are warmly welcomed. The Membership Secretary issues annual invitation letters to NCs/ISCs without ISC20C voting members designated, and to NCs/ISCs without ISC20C members.
