Establishment of ISC20C

The ICOMOS Executive Committee meeting, Bergen (Norway) resolved to support the formation of an International Scientific Committee on Twentieth Century Heritage. The Executive Committee proposed to invite a group of eminent experts[i] to be foundation members and nominated an Interim Management Committee for the first triennium to formalise the committee formation, draft statutes and develop a work plan, appointing Christiana Scmuckle Mollard (France) and Sheridan Burke (Australia) as co-ordinators, (with Francisco Lopez Morales (Mexico)who was unable to participate).

The Draft ISC20CH Statutes, objectives and list of potential foundation member were ratified by the ICOMOS Executive Committee. Foundation members to be invited were Karel Bakker (South Africa), Dinu Bumbaru (Canada), Sheridan Burke (Australia), Sherban Cantacuzino*(United-Kingdom), Abderahmane Chorfi (Morocco), Alfredo Conti (Argentina), Maria Rosa Suarez I. Ducassi* (Spain), Natalia Duschkina (Russian Federation) ,Yukio Tahane* (Japan), Aime Gonçalves (Benin), Gunny Harboe (United-States), Kiran Joshi (India), Francisco Lopez Morales* (Mexico) Marie Mattinen (Finland) Hugo Segawa (Brazil) Jorg Haspel(Germany), Eduardo Luis Rodriguez (Cuba), Christiane Schmuckle-Mollard (France), Giora Solar (Israel) ,Augusto Villalon (Philippines), Maristella Casciato* Docomomo, Stuart Smith TICCIH (*or alternatives to be nominated).
Invitations to nominate voting members to the forthcoming ISC20CH were sent to all national ICOMOS committees and ISCs.
Christiane Schmuckle Mollard and Sheridan Burke appointed by the ICOMOS Executive Committee as inaugural co-presidents for 2005-8 to develop and implement the initial triennial action plan and to work towards establishing a full International Scientific Committee. Sheridan and Christiane called an initial meeting of interested ICOMOS members in Xi’an at GA 2005 to establish a detailed work plan.

At the Xi’an meeting, expert volunteers offering to assist development of ISC20CH included: Dr Xavier de Anda Alanis (Mexico) as Vice-President and treasurer.(TBC) Gunny Harboe (USA) as Secretary General(TBC); Natalia Dushkina (Russian Federation) as 2006 Moscow Heritage at Risk Conference contact; Susan Macdonald (Australia) to draft ISC20CH mission statement (with Kyle Normandin, Stephen Kelley and Sheridan Burke); Kyle Normandin (USA) as database, e-serve list and communications; Sandra Uskokovic (Croatia) as ongoing Montreal Action Plan 20 survey report contact. Meetings held 2006 Moscow, 2007 Chicago and 2008 Quebec.
